Harnessing the versatility of Mellow polyester panels to create a number of different acoustic solutions.

Private banking group EFG International appointed AIS Interiors to revamp its outdated 33,950 sq ft office space in London, to “attract and retain top talent, reduce real estate size, achieve Ska *Gold and future-proof against potential changes in working practices.”

Having worked successfully on a multitude of projects over the year, Creatif was approached by AIS to provide a number of acoustic solutions using Mellow acoustic polyester.

Easily manipulated, Mellow can be used to create solutions where design, acoustics and the environment is important – and this project is great example of the material’s versatility.

The office space is situated across two linked floors, the lower of which is a largely open-plan area lined with sleek meeting rooms featuring glazed walls.

Situated centrally between the glass partitions, an illuminated EFG logo sits proudly on the wall backed by bespoke black Mellow timber slat panels, applied to create an acoustic surface that efficiently diffuses sound.

Mellow has also been used inside the meeting rooms in the form of 48 vertically-suspended acoustic ceiling baffles.

The 3,500mm wide panels help to reduce excessive reverberation caused as a result of soundwaves reflecting off the multitude of hard surfaces – such as glass, meeting tables, solid walls and ceilings – that are present.

Sound is both absorbed by the Mellow polyester material, with additional soundwaves trapped between the panels.

Mellow acoustic ceiling baffles are also present throughout other areas across the two floors which may otherwise fall victim to low levels of acoustic comfort.

EFG has made a significant commitment to employee wellbeing, dedicating around 30% of their space to their ‘Club House’; a “staff wellness suite housing a series environments that have been tailored to promote mental health, happiness and overall wellbeing”, according to AIS.

Within several of these spaces, Mellow timber slat panels have once again been used as a stylish wall covering that provides protection against excessive reverberation.
